The Iconic Puzzle Game Didn't Win at This Gaming Ceremony — A New Category Might Solve This

Each time a significant prize-giving event draws close, there’s always a clamor for introducing fresh award types to recognize underappreciated efforts and fill the hearts of fans dedicated to specific genres.

Another commentator made the case for a horror game category. That would rule. The same goes for strategy board titles, which is a dedicated supporter's campaign. But they will have to forgive me when I prioritize just as with other dedicated enthusiasts, there's a strong justification for why my demand stands as crucial and important of all. The demand is this: It's essential to create a category for puzzle games.

Categorizing Game Types

Categorizing art by genre isn't exact; opinions vary greatly, and typically start arguments concluding with vague boundaries. This explains why movie academies don’t do it. However, it represents an unavoidable compromise for the industry of gaming, showing incredible range they barely qualify a single creative category.

For comprehensive acknowledgment of interactive entertainment excellence to be recognized, and to ensure all game types to receive proper recognition, genre categories are essential.

Present Award Structure

The major gaming awards currently feature award types recognizing Action, Adventure-action titles, Role-Playing, Combat games, Sim/Strategy, and Sports/Racing games. Collectively, these six categories successfully include many game types, and you can find room accommodating various experiences.

Not so for puzzle games. No suitable classification appears to put them. Examine these examples from this year’s best games, each quite distinct: structural challenges of one title, the pulse-pounding block-matching from another release, engaging interpersonal challenges from additional release. Where could they possibly go within current classifications? Unfortunately, nowhere.

Recognition Challenges

Many instances occur outstanding logic titles released every year without proper recognition in entertainment awards, if they accidentally match award groups including Handheld titles, Virtual reality experiences, and the highly challenging independent game categories.

  • An iconic brain-teaser received no recognition for anything during that awards season
  • Another imaginative release received no nominations that year
  • A beloved organization game got ignored in 2021
  • Limited numbers of logic titles barely qualified for independent or mobile categories

Significance of Puzzle Games

Commonly they're modest productions, but the art of the puzzle game is of massive significance. Famous handheld logic titles rank among most popular titles in the world maintaining this status for an extended period.

The legendary block-stacking game challenges popular creative games competing to become most purchased experience; it’s also in the running for best game of all time. Brain-teasers form essential building blocks to the art of video games, and engaging with almost every other genre.

Proposal and Rationale

Puzzle games wouldn’t have this problem. It would be easy to populate a field of five with fascinating, diverse, deserving games each ceremony simply — or rather, with difficulty, because you’d have to leave numerous deserving experiences.

To emphasize again, these represent titles lacking appropriate categories in important events. Brain-teaser creators are working at the hard edge of video game design, creating some of essential manifestations of the video game form. Similar to film action specialists, they deserve recognition. Let’s not keep them waiting decades.
